The Government guidance published today neither amends the Building Regulations nor extends the existing powers of building control/approved inspectors.
However it does clarify that:
- the government does not currently intend to relax the Building Regulations’ requirements but, in respect of the temporary healthcare buildings and related facilities, it suggests that building control takes account of the exceptional circumstances
- remote/virtual inspections of construction work may be appropriate but should not normally be the sole method of assessing compliance
- where it is safe to do so, remediation work on highrise buildings with unsafe cladding should continue
